As soon as a death is confirmed, contact our team. We will:

3. Understanding Certification

From September 2024, all deaths in England must be reviewed by a Medical Examiner before the official death certificate is issued. If necessary, the Coroner will also be notified.

4. Register the Death

You must register the death within five days at the Register Office in the district where the person passed away.

What you need to bring

  • Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD)0800 138 1111

  • Deceased’s full name, date and place of birth

  • Last known address

  • Occupation and marital status

  • Details of any spouse or civil partner

  • NHS number (if known)

  • Birth or marriage certificates (if available)

5. Arranging the Funeral

7. When the Coroner is Involved

The Coroner may become involved if:

  • The death was sudden, unexplained, or due to an accident

  • The person hadn’t seen a doctor recently

  • The cause of death is uncertain
